Are you fascinated by the interaction between plants and microorganisms? The University of Amsterdam is looking for a motivated PhD candidate to research chemical communication between plants and their microbiome. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in a dynamic, international environment!
We're focusing on decoding the chemical language between plants and their associated microbes and how (interestingly) parasitic nematodes can also sense this language. In this project, you will focus on uncovering the plant side of this language through transcriptome and metabolomics data analysis and biochemical characterization of plant genes. Eventually you'll create knockout- or silenced variants for several genes. This way we hope to gain more insight into how this language is created from the plant side, its uses in creating plant-microbe partnerships as well as how harmful parasitic nematodes can sense this language too.
Besides all this, you will gain access to the entire MiCRop consortium: a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning over 5 different research groups throughout the Netherlands.
