Exhibition on microbial life in the Singer-Laren museum

2025-07-29

Through the exhibition Wij Zijn Natuur (We Are Nature) in the Singer-Laren museum, dutch princess Irene van Lippe-Biesterveld wishes to make people aware of the deep connection we have with nature: "We have distanced ourselves from nature, even though we are an inseparable part of it. By reconnecting with nature — and thus with each other — we build a future together in which the well-being of all life can truly flourish."

The exhibition holds a special place for the microbiome, as biologist and artist Tineke van der Pouw Kraan shows 50 of her works there. She tries to make people aware of the importance of soil microbiomes through her 'art-science'. Her works, which show microbes she grew herself on the roots of plants and trees, provide a spectacular new look upon our test-subjects (even for us) by highlighting not only their uses, but also their beauty.

We are happy to see microbiomes receiving attention outside of the field of science too through others forms of expression. If you wish to wonder upon and ponder over the works and goals of the exhibition yourself, you can buy tickets here.
