Friday June 6th, Marcel Dicke gave his farewell address entitled “Bugged Ideas” at Wageningen University & Research. After 22 years as chairholder of the Laboratory of Entomology, he looked back on an impressive career together with a large audience including family, friends, old PhD students and postdocs, colleagues, and collaborators. A special address was made to the urgence of finding sustainable replacements for chemical insecticides. In his words “the impossible is possible”. Marcel’s pioneering work on insect-plant-microbiome interactions is part of realizing this system change.
